The research is all over the news that our current environment is one of the most dangerous places to live on the planet. A study out of the University of Maryland published in the journal Environment and Behavior showed that every hour spent in a public space is likely to increase your risk of experiencing an asthma attack, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, or even lung cancer.
Well, while this news obviously makes us all feel a little squeamish, it’s not the first time that the environment is the culprit in our health. It’s true that we spend more time in our cars than we do at home, and that more time spent in a car than in the home environment is associated with an increased risk of death.
In fact, a 2014 study published in the American Journal of Public Health found that long car trips were associated with an increased risk of death and heart disease, as well as a smaller risk of lung cancer. However, after factoring in a person’s current health status, the researchers found that a person’s risk of death was increased by less than 0.1% for every hour they spent in a car.
The good news is that this study shows that when a person is in a car for long periods of time, even if they’re not doing so for a long time, the risk of death increases, as the person gets more involved with his/herself.
The researchers also found that the risk of lung cancer was increased by almost 40% (for every hour spent in a car) if you took the person out of their car (by walking or by using public transportation) for more than five hours. For the second study the researchers looked at how much blood the person was exposed to while sitting in a car for the same period of time. While the person in the car got more blood, it was less exposure to blood than in the car.
While our research is about car drivers, it applies to people in general. As someone who spends a lot of time in their car, I know it can get pretty warm in the car. When I was in college I used to spend hours sitting in my car without air conditioning because it was so hot in the parking lot that I couldn’t keep my car windows rolled down.
I think the research is really good, but you know what? The most interesting thing about it is that I think the research is valid. People generally think that driving is stressful, but they only think that because they’ve been around people like me for so long. For more than a decade Ive been on the road and Ive seen many different types of people.
I think what’s most interesting about this research is that it’s a little bit like my research on the effects of sun radiation in my own life. I’ve been sitting in a car in the sun for hours, but I still don’t get it. I don’t understand how my body works. I’m not sweating, I’m not dehydrated, and I’m not burning up.
In case you were wondering, I don’t get it either, which is why I’m really interested in this research. I think I’m going to do my own research like I did when I first started out with my research on sun exposure. I need to find out why I feel like Ive gotten the suns radiation just right, and if there is a way I can increase my exposure to the suns rays. I just need to figure out what I need to do.
