Cardiomyopathy is a disease that can affect any type of muscle contractions. It can cause you to feel tired and exhausted, have irregular heartbeat and heart rate, and is accompanied by heart failure. I have a friend who has cardiomyopathy so I have heard of these symptoms from him, but I have never heard my family members experiencing these symptoms. I asked him if he could play sports with this disease and he said he was not sure, but he sure tried.

My friend has a history of playing basketball at a high level, so I asked him if he would be willing to try football with his cardiomyopathy. He said he would. I asked him what sort of conditions he would need to play football with his cardiomyopathy and he said very high levels of creatine.

I was wondering if you would be willing to play football with your cardiomyopathy. He explained to me that he would need to be able to eat and drink regularly (which I knew he had done, but not daily). I could tell he wasn’t too interested in discussing it.

I’m not sure I’ve ever actually asked a cardiomyopathy patient if they would be willing to play sports with their condition. I might do that someday. Hopefully the cardiomyopathy patient will be more willing to play with his condition, and the question comes up again when my next patient is ready to go.
